This is one of the designs I have come up with. Although it is simplistic I feel the bold colours give it a modern twist and appeal to a younger generation. This could be built on with the use of flash to perhaps create a shake effect, on the highlighted section of the image and within the interact section with perhaps games for the user to interact with. The colour theme will be continued throughout in the same places for consistency however the colour used will change for each section.

The large black and white image especially looks great. Furthermore, the fade effect into the black at the bottom plays nicely.
The coloured transparency menu stands out, with the purple appearing vibrant. As I mentioned before, perhaps the text needs more strength in it's colouring so to sustain the vibrancy.
The character outlining is different and gives it an urban feel. The graphics connect nicely with the menu and it's colouring. I've never seen the juxtapositioning of coal mining with youth themed imagery.
I'm liking the design very much. I think it caters for both modern with the purple outlining and the old fashioned style with the black and white picture.
I agree with ash on the black effect at the bottom for the text.
if there's something to improve then i would suggest using a bolder brighter font/colour.
